Region Liberec


The Liberec Region is located in the north of the Czech Republic on the border with Germany and Poland. It is an area with a rich history and a wealth of natural, cultural, and historic landmarks. Region consists from four districts with a total area 3,163 km2 and 434 000 inhabitants. Boarder Mountains Jizerske Hory and Krkonose influence partly the road network. The capitol Liberec is connected to Prague and through Prague also to the rest of the Czech Republic as well as to Europe by four lane motorway, which makes region easy assessable from the Prague airport.

 

Region is well famous from the past for its beautiful glassworks spread around nearly whole territory.  Region is constantly changing, developing and growing, especially after 1990. The capitol city Liberec is well known as a city of University of Technology with several Faculties and several important research fields, among them the most famous the research of nanotechnologies.

 

Liberec was a city a Word Championship in Nordic Ski, nearby city Harrachov hosted regularly Word Championship in SKI jumping.

 

Liberec region belongs among the regions with highest interest about safety and sustainable mobility.

The following main actions will be implemented within the frame of the SOL - Save Our Lives Project:

  • Enlargement of multi-stakeholder road safety networks
  • Strengthening road safety management structure
  • Entire situational and institutional assessment including deep analysis of main accident causes
  • Update of regional road safety programme
  • Development of road safety action plan with interventions on top priority issues
  • Developing of the innovative campaign for road safety and sustainable mobility awareness increasing
  • Implementation of the “short road safety” inspections
  • Implementation of Safe journey to school programme as a part of children road safety education
  • Road Safety public education campaigns on speed, safe routes to school and sustainable mobility
  • Plans for continuation of RS measures in each pilot area

 

 

Kromeriz


Kromeriz grew in a fruitful agricultural landscape. The town has become a centre of spiritual culture and arts. Its place in culture and way of life has a similar character as its situation in the countryside, it is a centre opened to all sides. Today's Kromeriz has an area of 5,560 hectares. The town itself was built on 1,770 hectares, the remaining area consists of suburbs, the former agricultural villages.   Almost 30,000 residents live in the town and its suburbs. The town has preserved the historic character of an administrative centre (in the past, even the important property administration of the Olomouc bishopric and archbishopric diocese was located here), a town of cultural monuments, spiritual culture, arts and education.

This town of historic monuments, schools, arts and culture is called "The Athens of Haná". It is sought after by visitors especially for the richness of its monuments. Kromě ř í ž was proclaimed the most beautiful historic town of the Czech Republic in 1997. In December 1998, the two historic gardens and the Archbishopric Châ teau were enlisted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town is a venue of annual music festivals, exhibitions, professional conferences, workshops and congresses.  Kromeriz lies quite close to the one of the most important motorway crossing in the eastern part of the Czech Republic

Kromeriz is one of leaders and demonstration cities in injury prevention. Starting with participation in EU 4th FP DUMAS (Developing urban management and strategies), cross leading role in WHO Czech network of Health Cities up to the title of Safe Community Kromeriz shows its continuously work in injury prevention including road safety increasing.
