PILOT AREAS Italy

ALOT, the Italian Partner of SOL Project, is interested in the development of the four provinces in East Lombardy, that are among the more dynamic economic realities of the whole Country, and consequently among the more dynamic transport realities.

Two Pilot Activities will be developed by the Agency in two provinces: Brescia and Mantua.

The Province of Brescia, with a population of 1.100.000 inhabitants, 206 local municipalities and six mountain communities is one of the larger in Italy and it is also one of the few Provinces that managed to halve road deaths in line with the EU 2010 Objective. A new challenge is ahead given the renewed EU ambition of halving road deaths by 2020. This commitment requires continuous efforts to structure synergistically road safety actions and in the case of the Province of Brescia efforts have to be in line with a broader vision of the mobility system, focusing on the revitalization of the public transport system.

The province of Mantua has been characterized for a long time by its focus on sustainable mobility, the transport of goods and the objective of reducing road accidents. In order to accomplish this objective black spots have been monitored and studied along provincial roads. Interventions were planned in line with existing provincial plans. The Province has also undertaken several initiatives of prevention, information and enforcement for reducing accidents involving heavy good vehicles.
